My passion has always been in dealing with small brick and mortar businesses. I took VA Classroom's Social Media course in February 2009 and then stood up at the local chamber breakfast and said that I was a Social Media Specialist Virtual Assistant. I was met with a lot of blank stares, and I realized very quickly that I needed to educate the masses. After that meeting, I received a call from a Minister who told me that many of her parishioners were out of work and would I be able to run a LinkedIn seminar for them. I jumped at the opportunity and developed a 20 min. overview presentation on Social Media and a follow on live LinkedIn session. I charged a nominal amount per person for the LinkedIn session and had 23 participants. The session was wonderful and I picked up 2 new clients. I expanded the presentation and changed the LinkedIn session to a live overview of the Big 3, upped the fee slightly and ran it again through my local chamber. Again, 25 participants and 3 new clients. I will be running another session in March and already have people clamoring to get in. As word of mouth has spread, I have now been approached to provide a seminar for the faculty of the largest college in Ontario. I will also be appearing on Local television in March.

My business has exploded since taking this course and I am now bursting at the seams! The beauty of it is, more local businesses are taking a real interest in Social Media so there are even greater opportunities out there!
